How to Play Grow a Garden
Grow a Garden is a game of planting, patience, and good timing. Plant seeds, water them, harvest the ripe crops, and sell them. Then buy rarer seeds and more land, and let the weather multiply your harvest.
Play Grow a GardenThe objective
Turn a few Carrot seeds into a garden of rare crops
Grow a Garden has no game over and no clock against you. You start small and grow. Every crop you sell pays for better seeds, more plots, and gear that speeds up your plants. You have reached the late game when all 24 plots are open, the crop codex is complete, and you are harvesting Moon Blossoms.
The game is free, runs in the browser, and needs no account. Open the garden whenever you like. This guide covers every rule, all ten crops, and how weather and mutations work.
Your garden
Six plots, 30 coins, and three Carrot seeds
The garden is a 6 × 4 grid of 24 plots. The first 6 are open. The rest are locked, and the next one to buy shows its price. At the top you can see your coins, the current weather and how long it lasts, and the Sprinkler timer when one is running.
Below or beside the garden are three tabs. Seeds is the bag you plant from. Shop sells seeds, gear, and land, and restocks every 2:30. Basket holds harvested crops until you sell them. The big Harvest all and Sell buttons are always within reach.
Controls
Tap, click, or use the keyboard
Every input does the same thing. Use whichever suits the device in your hand.
Everywhere
Tap a plot
One tap does the right thing for that plot. Empty soil gets your selected seed, a growing plant gets watered, and a ripe crop is harvested. Tap the next locked plot (it shows a price) to buy it. Turn on the shovel to dig up a plant you no longer want.
Big buttons under the garden
Harvest all & Sell
Harvest all picks every ripe crop in one press. Sell turns the whole basket into coins and shows the total before you commit. The Seeds, Shop, and Basket tabs beside or below the garden hold everything else.
Desktop
Keyboard
Number keys 1–0 pick a seed, H harvests all, S sells, B opens the shop, U unlocks the next plot, D toggles the shovel, and M mutes. Arrow keys move between plots, and Enter or Space acts on the focused one.
The loop
Four steps you repeat all game
The steps never change. What changes is how valuable each one becomes.
- 1
Plant a seed
You start with 30 coins, three Carrot seeds, and six open plots of soil. Pick a seed from your bag and tap an empty plot to plant it. Every seed is used up when planted, so restock from the seed shop.
- 2
Water while it grows
Tap a growing plant to water it: it grows at double speed for 20 seconds. The progress bar under each plant turns blue while the water lasts. Rain, thunderstorms, and the Sprinkler speed up every plant at once.
- 3
Harvest ripe crops
When a crop is ripe it bounces in its plot. Tap it, or press Harvest all, to drop it into your basket. Carrots, Pumpkins, and Watermelons are used up when picked. Every other crop regrows and gives another harvest.
- 4
Sell, then grow bigger
Sell your basket for coins. Each crop is priced by its weight and any mutations. Spend coins on rarer seeds from the shop, which restocks every 2½ minutes, and on new plots until all 24 are yours.
Rules
How the garden works
The goal
There is no game over. You grow your garden from six plots and a few Carrot seeds into 24 plots of rare crops. Along the way you fill the crop codex, all ten crops from Carrot to Moon Blossom, and chase your best single-crop sale.
Seeds and the shop
The seed shop restocks every 2½ minutes. Carrots are always in stock. Rarer seeds show up less often and in small numbers: Moon Blossom appears in about one restock in forty. Stock you do not buy is replaced at the next restock.
Growth speed
Plants grow at 1× by default. Watering adds +100% for 20 seconds, the Sprinkler adds +50% to every plant for 2 minutes, and Rain or a Thunderstorm adds another +50%. The bonuses stack, so a watered plant in the rain under a sprinkler grows at 3×.
Crop value
Each harvested crop has a weight. Heavier crops are worth more, and a rare giant can weigh two to three times the average. Mutations then multiply that price. Golden (×20) and Rainbow (×50) set the base multiplier, and weather mutations add on top.
Weather and mutations
The weather changes every one to three minutes. Rain can turn ripe crops Wet (×2). A Thunderstorm adds a chance of lightning, which makes a crop Shocked (×10). Night can make crops Moonlit (×3). Weather only affects crops that are already ripe, so leaving a crop on the plant is a gamble that can pay off.
While you are away
Your garden saves automatically on this device. Close the tab and your plants keep growing at normal speed for up to 24 hours. Weather and weather mutations only happen while the game is open.
Seeds list
All ten crops, from Carrot to Moon Blossom
Growth times are at normal 1× speed. Sell values are for an average-weight crop with no mutations. Shop odds are the chance a seed appears in any given restock.

Weather & mutations
How a crop becomes worth fifty times more
The weather changes every one to three minutes while the game is open. Weather mutations only affect crops that are ripe and still on the plant. Golden and Rainbow are rolled the moment a crop ripens.
Clear skies
Calm weather. Crops grow at normal speed.
Rain
Every plant grows 50% faster, and ripe crops can turn Wet (×2).
Thunderstorm
Growth +50%. Ripe crops turn Wet, and lightning can leave them Shocked (×10).
Night
Moonlight can turn ripe crops Moonlit (×3).
- ×2
Wet
Ripe crops left out in Rain or a Thunderstorm
- ×3
Moonlit
Ripe crops left out on a Night
- ×10
Shocked
A lightning strike on a ripe crop during a Thunderstorm (replaces Wet)
- ×20
Golden
1% chance when any crop ripens
- ×50
Rainbow
0.1% chance when any crop ripens
Common mistakes
Why gardens grow slowly
Letting coins sit in the basket
A full basket is not money until you press Sell. New players often fill it, then find they cannot afford a rare seed in the restock that just landed. Sell often. Sale prices never change, so you lose nothing by selling early.
Planting only Carrots
Carrots are cheap and quick, but each one is used up when picked. After your first few sales, switch empty plots to regrowing crops like Strawberries, Blueberries, and Tomatoes. They pay again and again from a single seed.
Harvesting the moment it rains
Weather only mutates crops that are ripe and still on the plant. If you harvest the instant a Thunderstorm starts, you throw away your chance at a Shocked crop worth ten times more.
Digging up plants by accident
The shovel removes a plant for good and does not refund the seed. Use it only to clear a cheap crop for a better one, and press Esc or D to put the shovel away when you are done.
Good habits
Tips to grow faster
These are the short versions. The full tips page explains each one in detail.
- Water everything, every time. A watered plant grows twice as fast, and watering is free.
- Move from Carrots to Strawberries early. They regrow every 30 seconds, so one seed keeps paying.
- Sell before you shop. Your basket earns nothing until it is sold, and the best seeds sell out quickly.
- When it rains, leave ripe crops on the plant for a while to fish for Wet. During a Thunderstorm, try for Shocked (×10).
- Buy plots steadily. Each one is a permanent extra crop slot, and early plots are cheap.
- Big single-harvest crops like Pumpkins and Watermelons pay best when you have spare coins and want one large sale.
- Run the Sprinkler when most plots are full of slow, valuable crops. That is when +50% saves the most time.
Where you can play
Same garden on phone and desktop
growagarden.app runs in any modern browser with no app to install. Your garden stays on the device you play on.
Desktop browsers
Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari all run the game with no plugin. Click plots or use the keyboard: number keys for seeds, H to harvest, S to sell, and the arrow keys to move between plots.
Phones and tablets
The garden, the Harvest and Sell buttons, and your seed bag all fit on one portrait screen. Every action is a single tap, with no dragging and no tiny targets.
Your garden on this device
Coins, seeds, plots, the basket, and lifetime stats are saved in local browser storage. Nothing goes to a server, so your garden does not sync between devices or browsers.
